FO Friday – Patriotic hat

patriotic hat on Cindy

My love of making hats continues.  They are just so quick to make.  I’m a faster crocheter than knitter, so this one only took me a couple of hours one night to whip up!

The color on top is a little hard to determine but trust me, it’s navy blue.  The original pattern only showed one color but I wanted to mix it up some.  The bonus part was this used up some of my little balls of yarn I have in the bucket.

I was aiming for the 6-12 month baby sized hat and was worried it seemed a little big (I didn’t do a gauge swatch).  However, it’s pretty tight on Cindy so I think it’s right on target.  In past measurements her head seems to be more in the 18-24 month range.

I also wanted to post some updated pictures of an old project.  This was the scarf I made for my sister-in-law back in 2011.  At the time, I forgot to take a picture before I gave it to her, so I was limited to this:

Siri's scarf

Unfortunately, she lost her battle with cancer the very next August and never saw another birthday.   Her family must have remembered I gave it to her because it came back into my possession a few weeks ago.  I’ll remember her every time I wear it.

It really needs to be blocked again because it has been folded up and had the pin stuck in it for a long time.  I’m still as happy now as to how it turned out as I was back then.

Here’s a close-up of the stitches:

I still find it hard to believe that this technically was only my third knitting project ever!  And I decided to tackle lace.  Yep, I have no fear.  The lace part wasn’t as bad as it was having to work with the bamboo yarn I choose.  There was very little twist so it was easy to split the stitches.  The yarn works up beautifully and is incredibly soft, but it probably wasn’t the best choice for a beginner project.
