Birthday gifts 2013

my birthday present - exterior

If you read my Greek birthday post, it may already be evident that I had a good birthday.  But as a yarnaholic, my day was even better than expected.  I should have known something was up when Little Chick would mention “present” every time I said it was Mama’s birthday.  My family gave me a gift … from Gander Mountain.

Ooo … it’s a TACKLE BOX / BAG !  Not exciting?  Well, actually it is.  My husband bought it for me because he thought it would be big enough to hold all my knitting and crochet supplies!

Inside are three boxes that have slats where you can put in dividers.  There are also a dozen outer pockets to also hold paraphernalia.

The only semi-problem we ran into was my 14″ needles.  The plastic boxes are about 13 3/4″ long.  Oops.  So those needles won’t fit in the boxes, but I had an empty paper towel tube to help contain them, and they were able to slip into an outside pocket.  Every fiber tool I own is now in there – knitting needles, crochet hooks, yarn needles (for weaving in ends), stitch markers, post-it markers, scissors – you name it.  I even have an empty box!  Maybe I should pull it out so I can stash some yarn in there to keep it handy.

My parents and mother-in-law gave me money to have fun with.  Hmmm … you suppose I can sneak some more yarn or supplies in the house? 🙂

I got another unexpected “gift” that day.: one of my recent giveaway winnings.  AslanTrends has been having weekly giveaways on Ravelry, on their Facebook and other social media.  A couple of weeks ago I won a prize that was supposed to be their Lecco yarn.  It just happened to arrive on my birthday – along with a skein of Litoral Sparkle yarn that is gorgeous.  I’m not sure what I’ll make yet, but whatever it is, I’m sure it’ll be beautiful!

I’m off to fondle my yarn again…
